Where Moss Grows

"All night I heard the small kingdoms breathing around me / the insects and the birds who do their work in the darkness". - Mary Oliver

Where Moss Grows is a series of ceramic sculptures inspired by forest life and the small moments of curiosity that occur within it. Featuring woodland animals, tree forms, and richly textured surfaces, the work draws attention to quiet interactions like an animal pausing, observing, or reaching toward something just out of view.

Surface detail plays a central role in this body of work. Bark, moss, leaves, and natural growth patterns are carefully built and carved into the clay, encouraging slow looking and close observation. Rather than depicting dramatic scenes, these sculptures focus on stillness, attentiveness, and the act of noticing.

This series invites viewers to slow down and engage with the subtle relationships between creatures and their environments, finding meaning in small gestures and overlooked moments in nature.
